Welcome to week 2!
Week of February 2 - 9
Welcome back to Majo by Maria.
This week was the release of the blog and I´m so happy with the interactions so far!!
Ok, let’s start with what you are here for.

What a busy week for the music industry. First of all, of course, the 67th Annual Grammys Awards on Sunday, February 2nd. We had some unexpected moments that kept the entertainment up this week. I am sure all of you already know, and we are here to talk about music. The official list of winners and nominees here!, but the top Grammy winner this year, is the rapper and singer Kendrick Lamar, with five awards. Following Sierra Ferrell with four and Beyoncé, Charli XCX and St.Vincent with three. A bittersweet night with the final winners, according to the public’s opinion. One of the biggest night’s surprises was the performance of The Weeknd after his boycott against the awards. What is your opinion on this big night?
Again, the Canadian singer, The Weeknd, is trending this week. First, with his re-appearance at the Grammys, but also the release of the movie trailer Hurry Up Tomorrow. Movie with the same name as his album. Starring Jenna Ortega, Barry Keoghan and, of course, Abel Tesfaye.
Coming soon, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U by Drake and PartyNextDoor. The album will arrive on Valentine’s Day and will finally make true the rumoured collaboration between these two Canadian singers. Also, around the corner is the Super Bowl, the biggest night for football fans it’s also one of the biggest nights for music fans. The 59th Halftime show will be by the most Grammy-awarded rapper, Kendrick Lamar, with special guest SZA. Are there going to be more guests? In the pre-game performances, we’ll have Jon Batiste in the national anthem and Ledisi with “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” a poem from 1900 which is referred to as the Black National anthem.

Latin Spotlight of the Week.
It’s been trending lately the traditional Latin tropical sounds. These genres have never died, but they haven’t been known and recognized as they used to be years ago. At the top of the charts and opening the Latin path in recent years have been the urban Latin genres, mostly reggaeton. The tropical sounds were kept in the Latin American culture, but artists like Karol G, Bad Bunny, Rauw Alejandro and Ryan Castro have made them known worldwide. Ryan Castro has been releasing for years merengue, salsa and traditional paisa-rhythm songs. Karol G broke the charts last summer with Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido, a merengue song that made Taylor Swift and Post Malone dance in VMAs 2024. Bad Bunny and Rauw Alejandro’s albums are an anthem to the traditional music in Puerto Rico, showing their roots to the world. New talents have joined this trend: Rawayana, Alleh & Yorghaki, Kapo and Luck Ra. This movement is amazing, and it is bringing back the sound of Gloria Estefan, Celia Cruz, Shakira and Ricky Martin. Artists that decades ago, without the internet or social media, were able to make the world know about Latin America and our incredible music. Isn’t it amazing how everything is a cycle?
