Week of 21 - 28 February

Welcome back, music lovers!

Collage of people, a poster, and text "WEEK FIVE UPDATES" in blue. Features bold colors and varied facial expressions.

This week brought a very interesting movement in the music industry. To be exact, in the UK. Probably, there were more new things happening, but this week's blog post is going to focus on this. It is not a secret what is happening in the world with the development of AI technologies. A lot of creative work is being stolen or not being protected enough under copyright laws due to how new it is. The creative industries in the United Kingdom launched “Make it Fair” that, as we can see in The Guardian’s article, this campaign is fighting how “The government is siding with big tech over British creativity.” This movement has been supported by well-known companies in the music industry, like Sony Music UK and Warner Music Group. And joining the cause, more than a thousand artists have made a silent album called Is This What We Want? The 12-track album gives a clear message with its songs showing empty studios. This is the tracklist:

  1. The

  2. British

  3. Government

  4. Must

  5. Not

  6. Legalise

  7. Music

  8. Theft

  9. To

  10. Benefit

  11. AI

  12. Companies

Some artists that are supporting this cause are Kate Bush, Annie Lennox, Cat Stevens, Damon Albarn, Elton John and Paul McCartney. Even though this is not a Canadian manner, it is something that is affecting everyone around the world. In all creative industries: music, photography, journalism, writing, content creation, and so on. I think this movement is awesome and important, and the talents that are supporting it are incredible. The minute I knew about this, I thought, Is the silence loud enough to wake us up? I think this is a great movement that needs to be heard all over the world in all kinds of creative fields to create consciousness of how valuable human creativity is.

In other news, the Brit Awards 2025 are around the corner, and Charli XCX has been named Songwriter of the Year. Since this week’s blog post is focused on UK celebrities, this is a great place to showcase the talent of all of them. Check out all nominees here!

New Music!

This week, we’re gonna start with the talented Canadian Singer Tate McRae and her new album So Close To What. Another new album, Alter Ego, by LISA with interesting collaborations that make this music piece even better. We also have Karan Aujla, OneRepublic and Ikky with Tell Me; Sorry I’m Here For Someone Else by Benson Boone and cLOUDs by J.Cole.

More new music:

  • Love is Real Life by Lizzo.

  • Safeword by Halsey.

  • Gordon in the Willows by Patrick Watson & Charlotte Cardin.

  • Til A Mawnin by Shaggy & Sting.

  • NOS DESCONOXIMOS by Feid.

  • Crashing by d4vd & Kali Uchis.

Latin Spotlight!

This week’s Latin Spotlight will go to the one and only Juliana. A new Colombian artist who has shown the world what it is to be Colombiana. Her unique sound has travelled from Netflix to the Latin Grammys. Her latest album, La Pista, is not like any other album. It is the best representation of Colombian culture. With pop, reggaeton, salsa and tropical sounds, the novelalbum will guide you through feelings and melodies. Wait, what is a novelalbum ? It is a novela in an album. If you are latinx, you know the importance of novelas in our culture. Well, this one has music included! You have different stories going on at the same time. The main ingredient is drama, among colors and cultural references. This album has amazing collaborations with LAGOS, POCAH, Marco Mares, Las Villa, Esteban Rojas, Neto Peña and Piso 21. And the novela part has incredible guests, that only if you are Colombian enough you will catch them.

I am being biased with this, but this album touched memories and feelings inside me that were shown in a smile on my face. So, if you want to know a little bit more about my music and my roots (or any Colombian around you), don’t miss this masterpiece.

Thank you for coming back another week!

Same time next week?

Byeee
