There is music everywhere. Everyone has their own soundtrack. How you listen to the world makes you different, and sharing that view with everyone else makes beautiful mixes. I’ve spent the last two and half months surrounded by people from all over the world. I have listened to all kinds of new music from New Zealand reggae to French pop. I can’t live without listening to music, what I listen to is in the Latin music genres, but having all that new variety of sounds made me think about how amazing the music industry is and how it can be something so unique to every person. Every song you show others is the best sample of your soul and most intimate feelings. Have you ever paid attention to the music you listened to when you are alone and ready to sleep? Have you shown that to someone else? What does it make you feel when you are walking somewhere, and you listen in the most unexpected place to your favourite artist or your favourite song?

Me, as usual enjoying music.

Everyone enjoys music without being a musician or an expert on it. I have always been intrigued by the power of music in every aspect of your life. It can be symbolic of your memories, your country or your culture. It can be the bandage that your heart needs. Do you still think that the time machine doesn’t exist? Please listen to the song you were listening to in one of your best memories and close your eyes, you will be there. Your brain will associate that sound with that specific moment and that is not by chance, that is science. The variety of music that we have nowadays is because of that multicultural exchange. The great extension of the genres around the world shows how different meanings of happiness can create a whole new feeling. It can unite two cultures or even attract a different one.

People will learn about a different sound, a different perspective and overall a different way to see the world.

To see that new face of the world you don’t need to understand every word that you are listening to, you have to feel the sound, every rhythm and sensation that it gives you. That is the reason why Latin music has travelled all over the world. How many of the people know exactly what Despacito means? They just let them free in the Caribbean flow. And that is wonderful, with this experience I learned to open my mind -and my ears- to new and different music, in all languages and from any part of the world. I heard someone who doesn’t know any Spanish this summer listen to a Latin song in Spanish -Otra vez by J Balvin and Zion & Lennox- and I asked him, do you even know what they are saying? He just replied, “I don’t need to. The music behind the words is what I liked, that is Afrobeats, and that is my favourite genre”. That was the final thought to finish my idea for this article. You just need to open your soul to all the new sounds, close your eyes and look inside of you what it is that you are feeling.

Where I started writing this article.

Who would’ve thought that the compilation of sounds would mean so much to someone? If you think about it making music is art, you have an infinite way to make sounds or noises, and the brilliant mind of the human gets to put together a repetition of this to create a harmony that will make your brain feel a specific feeling. That is art, magic and science in one place. And on top of that, you can add words, that in some cases will lead to a poem dancing between that beautiful harmony, or in a message that was in your mind but never got to your mouth, or just in the silliest combination of words that just make sense in that moment of your life. All my life I have thought that, and every time I listen to a new song I get impressed by that and I admire all the musicians for being angels of feelings, culture and memories.

All those lyrics and emotions have gone beyond borders. The music in this era with all the platforms has become global, and that is my favourite thing in the world. Mostly for Latin music. I am the biggest fan of it. We -the Latin community- are the perfect example of that cultural mix. History shows how our music reflects the combination of the old and new world. Artists like J Balvin and Karol G have made sure of share that message in every corner of the globe. They want to make Latin music an international feeling, something that every time someone listens to that they get a part of our culture and history. They didn’t start that but they have made It bigger and bigger in the last decade. Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin, Selena, Shakira and Celia Cruz saw that ages ago and they always bet on Latin music as the key to showing our culture in the best way possible.

Globalization might mean for some people just money but music is more than that, it is everything. You can learn history and art at the same time. You can fly while you walk. Dream without being sleep. And live when you are about to die. Listen carefully to every note. Pay attention to every word. And make your brain feel at peace for taking so many information in the best way that the human invented. Explore different genres and connect with the music that defines you better. Always defend what is yours and don’t let anyone be between you and your música.
